Nurse Practitioners
Our Nurse Practitioners are qualified
to examine patients and to prescribe for all minor illness and a wide range of common conditions. You
can make an appointment with them most weekday mornings between 8.40am and 12
noon, and some afternoons.
The
Practice Nurses
The Practice Nurse Team is available
at Brookside Health Centre, Monday-Friday 9.00am-1.00pm
and 2.00-5.30pm. An appointment system operates for routine matters; casualties
will be seen as soon as possible.
At Yarmouth Surgery a nurse is available 9.00am-12 noon Monday-Friday
and in the afternoons by appointment only.
Nurses' duties include
well woman clinics, asthma clinics, immunisation for foreign travel, routine vaccinations,
blood pressure checks, dressings, ear syringing, assisting with minor operations,
chaperoning doctors, coronary heart disease clinics, no smoking clinics and family
planning clinics.
Practice Manager
The Practice Manager is responsible for the administration of the practice.
We would be happy to hear your views and suggestions about the services offered
by the practice.
If you have a complaint please address this to the Practice Manager
who will advise you of our complaints procedure.
The
Reception Office
The reception is staffed when the health
centre is open, and our receptionists will be your first contact with the practice
and may ask you for further details. This is to ensure that we can assist you
as efficiently as possible.
The receptionists are bound by the same rules of confidentiality
as doctors and nurses. All patient information on written/computer records will
be regarded as confidential and will only be passed to other health professionals
on a need-to-know basis.
Help Desk
The Help Desk is staffed from 10.00am - 12 noon and 2.00 - 4.00pm on weekdays. The staff there will help with any queries about administration and non-medical aspects of health care.
District
Nursing
The District Nursing Team, employed by the PCT, work within the Health Centre to provide a nursing service to
housebound patients. Examples of nursing care provided include: wound care, pressure area
care, continence support, administration of injections and care of the dying patient.
If
you require a visit from the district nurse, please ring the Health Centre. The District Nursing Service is available between 8.30am-9.30pm
daily.
The District Nursing Team is also involved in the management of
several specialist clinics.
Health Visitors
Telephone 0844 815 1428. Health Visitors help care for
all families with children under five years of age, and provide information,
advice and support to all age groups.
Medical Students GP Trainees, and Student
Nurses
Occasionally, we have students and trainees visiting the practice
to gain experience in general practice. Should you not wish them to be in attendance,
please inform the receptionist.
Training Practice
We are proud to be recognised as a Training Practice for fully qualified doctors wishing to take up a career in General Practice. These doctors (called GP Specialist Registrars) work with the Practice Team for up to one year before becoming General Practitioners after completing their training. They are at all times encouraged to seek advice when required from the practice partners.
When booking an appointment you may be asked if you would consult with one of our registrars, who are qualified doctors, appointed by the practice.
Research Studies
Brookside and Yarmouth practices are actively involved in Research studies in which you may be asked to take part. This will be entirely voluntary.
All patients can be reassured that no one will ever give out your information without your consent.
You are under no obligation at all to take part in research and such a decision will not in any way affect your medical care or treatment.
If you do agree to take part, you may withdrawn at any time without giving an explanation and, again, this will not affect your medical care in any way.
Dr John is the lead doctor for research and he would be happy to answer any
general or specific questions you may have on this subject.
